AIG Information
Mission - The mission of the Stanly County Schools Gifted Education program is to recognize and meet the unique needs of academically and intellectually gifted students.

Vision Statements:
  • Provide academically and intellectually gifted students access to a support system which meets their social, emotional and academic needs.
  • Identify, support and serve academically and intellectually gifted students from diverse populations.
  • Provide academically and intellectually gifted students with differentiated curriculum that includes enrichment, acceleration and rigor, which will replace and extend portions of established curricula.
  • Provide a nurturing environment for students that encourages problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and affective education.
  • Provide academically and intellectually gifted students with resources and experiences that go beyond the structures of the school.
AIG Opportunities
Charlotte Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) HEROES Program
Through a Model State-Supported Grant, the Charlotte AHEC develops initiatives to educate all pre-college youth, with an emphasis on underrepresented minorities, and economically/educationally disadvantaged populations about health careers. They also develop academic preparedness with these youth through math and science critical thinking skill enrichment, student computer/internet skills, clinical observations, and healthcare system site visits.

North Carolina Summer Institute in Choral Art at Appalachian State University
This institute inspires young singers to appreciate choral music art by providing the opportunity to work with renowned conductors. It also offers in-depth classes in dance and musicianship, in addition to recreational activities.

Looking Toward College: A Residential Program for High School Women (LTC)
Meredith College believes it is helpful for high school women to have the opportunity to explore what college life is really like. For the 31st year, Meredith offers a personal skills seminar that focuses on topics such as communication skills, values clarification, college selection and career planning. Students live on campus for this four-day program.

MarineQuest Camps at UNC-Wilmington
For more than 25 years UNCW MarineQuest, in conjunction with the Center for Marine Science and the Watson School of Education, has provided exciting academic enrichment opportunities for young people interested in the marine environment. (Ages 5-17) Phone : 910.962.2640

Math and Science Education Network (MSEN) Pre-College Program
The MSEN Pre-College Program, located on nine UNC System campuses, is designed to prepare students in grades 6 through 12 to pursue mathematics and science at the university level and beyond, including academic enrichment/preparation classes, Saturday and summer scholar programs, and competitions.

All-Arts and Science Camp at UNC-Greensboro
The All-Arts, Sciences & Technology Camp, sponsored by UNCG's Division of Continual Learning, is a weeklong, residential summer camp for children ages 7-15. Designed to give quality instruction in the arts and sciences, the camp also includes recreation, values exploration, and citizenship components.

Pre-college programs at NC –State
North Carolina State University offers pre-college programs in a variety of academic disciplines – each aimed at helping students prepare for college while experiencing NC State life. Programs are available for elementary, middle, and high school students. Phone: 919.513.1370

Summer Music Camp at UNCG
The School of Music at UNC Greensboro is pleased to again announce plans for Summer Music Camp, now the largest University Music Camp in America! This summer we will offer two one-week camps with programs in band, mixed chorus, orchestra and piano serving over 1,800 musicians.

UNC-Chapel Hill’s High School Music Camp
The 2009 High School Music Camp is one great musical adventure offering master classes, private lessons, and opportunities to work one-on-one with UNC faculty. You will have lots of chances to perform—as soloists, in large choral music groups, and in small ensembles—through a student recital, a cabaret talent night, and a gala closing concert.

Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) at ASU
Duke University’s TIP program at ASU, Appalachian State University, located in Boone North Carolina, offers gifted and talented students the opportunity to experience college-level classes and challenges.

Cannon Music Camp
This is the most comprehensive course of musical instruction in the Southeast, with intensive college preparatory work in performance and music history.

Ferrum College Summer Enrichment Camp
Located at Ferrum College, VA, in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, FCSEC is a camp offering exciting opportunities for academically motivated students currently in grades five, six, or seven. The daily academic program is balanced with a variety of social and recreational activities designed to promote personal growth, team-building and an appreciation of individual differences and abilities.

The Green River Preserve
The Green River Preserve is an environmental summer camp located on a magnificent 3,400 acre private wildlife preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Brevard, North Carolina. It’s an environmental summer camp where bright young naturalists can discover the abundance of beauty, life and wonder that wilderness holds.

Camp Broadstone Summer Enrichment Program for Gifted and Talented Youth
Camp Broadstone is Appalachian State University's year round outdoor adventure and retreat center with a specialized summer camp for academically gifted youth. The summer enrichment program provides an opportunity to explore a blend of enrichment classes and adventure programs designed to encourage and foster intellectual, social, and physical growth. Its 55 acres of woods and meadows are located in the small community of Valle Crucis nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth
NSLI-Y is an exciting, new merit-based US Government overseas language program for American high school students that will fund approximately 550 students to study and master languages not traditionally taught in U.S. high schools but which are critical for our country’s future.

Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics
Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM) is a cost-free, state-funded program for academically talented students who may pursue careers based in science and mathematics. The program brings rising juniors and seniors together in residential settings for intensive study.
