Anticipation was high as the West Stanly High School softball team left to play the first game of the state softball championship on Friday. Due to weather, Friday's game was rescheduled to Saturday which ensured a double header on Saturday. WSHS edged out Eastern Randolph in game 1, but were handed a defeat in game 2. This setup a climatic game 3 on Sunday. After a tough game, the West Stanly High School softball team defeated Eastern Randolph in game 3 to be crowned state champions.
