Stanly County Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Sidney Cecil as the district’s new Director of Transportation.
Mr. Cecil brings nearly 18 years of experience in education and more than 15 years of experience working alongside school transportation operations. He currently serves as Assistant Principal at Ledford High School and began his career in education in 2009 as a physical education teacher and coach. In 2012, he transitioned into the role of athletic director before moving into school administration in 2021. Throughout his career, Mr. Cecil has served students and staff at both the middle and high school levels.
A graduate of Appalachian State University, Mr. Cecil earned his undergraduate degree in 2009 and later completed his master’s degree in 2021. He also completed two years of doctoral coursework at High Point University and earned his Certificate for “The Superintendency” through the ASCEND program in 2024.
During his career, Mr. Cecil has focused on building positive school culture, strengthening staff support systems, and improving student opportunities. While serving at South Davidson Middle/High School, he helped increase staff retention from 78% to 92% and was part of the leadership team that led the school to achieve “Met Growth” status for two consecutive years — a first for the school in more than a decade.
Mr. Cecil shared that the opportunity to grow as a leader and make an impact at the district level drew him to Stanly County Schools.
“Growth and development is my main focus,” said Cecil. “My goal is to have our bus transportation work as efficiently as possible. I want our students to be safe to and from school and to support our bus drivers and monitors. I’ve always operated on the team concept, with each player having a pivotal role to the success of the team.”
He added, “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue to grow as a leader and I look forward to working with staff across the district. I’m really excited to be part of the Stanly County Schools family.”
Originally from Pinnacle, North Carolina, Mr. Cecil attended West Stokes High School. He and his wife, Morgan, have been married for 13 years and have two children, Raelyn and Chaz. Outside of work, he enjoys boating on the lake, grilling, golfing, spending time with family and friends, and coaching youth sports in his community. He is also a member of Bethany Church in Lexington.
Stanly County Schools is excited to welcome Mr. Cecil to the district and looks forward to the leadership and experience he will bring to the Transportation Department.
