Stanly County Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Vera Woolard as the new Director of Alternative Learning

Stanly County Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Vera Woolard as the new Director of Alternative Learning for the Stanly Academy Learning Center and Stanly County Virtual Education.

Dr. Woolard most recently served as Assistant Principal at Albemarle Middle School, where she supported student achievement, school improvement efforts, and the success of diverse learners. She brings a wealth of educational leadership experience to her new role, with a career focused on curriculum and instruction, student support services, and innovative learning opportunities.

Prior to joining Stanly County Schools, Dr. Woolard served as the English as a Second Language (ESL) Coordinator for Gaston County Schools. Her leadership experience also includes serving as a Dual Language Immersion Principal and Middle School Assistant Principal in Union County Public Schools, where she championed instructional excellence and student success.

Throughout her career, Dr. Woolard has been recognized for her commitment to education, earning distinctions including Professional Development Master Teacher and Assistant Principal of the Year. She has also presented professional development sessions at both the state and national levels.

Dr. Woolard earned both her Master's and Doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University, where she also obtained licensure in School Administration as both a Principal and Superintendent Administrator. She holds a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University.

“I am excited about the endless possibilities this role presents to create meaningful, student-centered opportunities that empower learners to reach their full potential,” said Dr. Woolard. “My goal is to work alongside students, families, staff, and community partners to expand opportunities for community service and real-world learning experiences that foster personal growth, responsibility, and engagement. Most importantly, I am committed to ensuring successful outcomes for every student by helping them develop the skills, confidence, and support systems needed to thrive in school and beyond.”
