Stanly County Schools is pleased to welcome Mr. Shawn Garrett as the new Assistant Principal of North Stanly Middle School.
Mr. Garrett brings 24 years of experience in public education to Stanly County Schools, including 21 years as a Physical Education and Health teacher and the past three years serving as an Assistant Principal. Throughout his career, he has worked in Chatham, Davidson, Durham, and Randolph County school districts, building a strong foundation in instructional leadership, student engagement, and school culture.
Mr. Garrett earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Rockford University, a Master of Arts in Sports Leadership from Concordia University, and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation through the United States Sports Academy.
During his career, Mr. Garrett has been recognized for his leadership both in the classroom and in athletics. While serving at South Davidson High School, he was named the 2008 Yadkin Valley Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to both an Easter Tournament Championship and a conference championship.
Mr. Garrett was drawn to Stanly County Schools because of its close-knit communities and strong relationships, believing they reflect the type of school environment where he can make a meaningful impact. As Assistant Principal at North Stanly Middle School, he is committed to growing as a leader while supporting students, staff, and families in creating a positive and successful learning environment.

Outside of school, Mr. Garrett lives in Randolph County with his wife of 16 years, Donna, and their children, Amber, Sam, Noah, Easton, and Raylee. Together, they also enjoy life with their eight dogs. In addition to his work in public education, Mr. Garrett has shared his passion for teaching internationally, leading Physical Education and Sports Leadership summer courses for K–12 educators in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
