Become a Teacher Assistant
Stanly County Schools seeks outstanding teacher assistant candidates to provide instructional support in the classroom, to enhance learning opportunities for our students. Teacher Assistants may work in regular education classrooms, Exceptional Children’s classrooms, or in specialized settings. All Teacher Assistants must be considered highly qualified for the position. Regular Education Teacher Assistants are required to hold and maintain a CDL Bus License, and be willing to drive a school bus, per Board of Education Policy #3095. EC Teacher Assistants have the choice to either obtain a bus license OR become a bus monitor while working in the EC area.
The requirements to be considered highly qualified as a Teacher Assistant, ONE of the requirements below must be met:
● A four-year degree from an accredited college/university
● A two-year degree from an accredited college or university
● 48 semester credits from an accredited college or university (quarter hours earned can be converted to semester hours by multiplying the number of credits by 0.67)
● 96 documented continuing education hours earned after January 8, 2002 AND passing WorkKeys assessment scores for the following:
● A two-year degree from an accredited college or university
● 48 semester credits from an accredited college or university (quarter hours earned can be converted to semester hours by multiplying the number of credits by 0.67)
● 96 documented continuing education hours earned after January 8, 2002 AND passing WorkKeys assessment scores for the following:

- Workplace Documents (reading) - passing score 4
- Applied Mathematics - passing score 4
- Business Writing - passing score 3

● If highly qualified standards were previously met in another state, an official letter from the Public School Human Resources office is needed stating the “highly qualified standards” were met. SCS will review the information and determine if it meets NC HQ standards.
