Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education is designed to prepare students by teaching 21st-century skills that they will need to be lifelong learners. Students have many opportunities in a variety of pathways that will help prepare them for life after high school; whether it be in a four-year university, a two-year community or technical college, military, or in a career. Through classes offered by CTE, students will gain the technical skills and academic knowledge to prepare them for future employment and/or a successful transition to post-secondary education.CTE programs are located in all traditional high schools and middle schools within Stanly County.

Today’s job market requires individuals with technical and high-level problem-solving skills. Career Readiness is focused on teaching these attributes through real-world applications in all of the different program areas, whether it be agriculture, masonry, marketing, culinary arts, drafting, construction, accounting, engineering, or cosmetology.

Stanly County CTE Business Advisory Council
Each quarter Stanly County CTE meets with a variety of local business and industry partners to gain further knowledge of business trends to help us make educated decisions on the classes and materials we need to be providing to our students.  If you are interested in serving on this board, please contact Mandy Melton, CTE Director at [email protected]

Students have the opportunity to participate in two CTE Internships during their Junior and Senior years. These internships allow students to gain valuable experience in their career field of choice, while also earning school credit.

Stanly County is proud to say that we currently have three different pre-apprenticeship programs available to our students in Masonry, Automotive, and Early Childhood Education.  If you would like to learn how your student could be a part of these pre-apprenticeship programs, please contact your school's Career Development Coordinator.

National Technical Honor Society
Each of our four traditional high schools has a National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Chapter.  Students must have a concentration in a CTE pathway and maintain a 2.8 unweighted GPA in order to qualify.  Each chapter helps in a variety of events including, but not limited to such things as elementary school reading programs, 8th-grade high school tours, Business & Industry school tours, and blood drives.

Skills USA
Stanly County CTE is proud to say that we have competitors at the state level competitions from all four traditional high schools.  Students will be competing in a wide array of events ranging from masonry to culinary to healthcare terminology.  We had many students place at regionals and are super excited to see our students excel at the state convention in April.

FFA
Three of our high schools have very active FFA clubs.  These clubs are very active and are constantly attending competitive events where our students excel.  FFA provides opportunities for our students to engage in leadership activities while also learning industry-standard skills.
